Cost For Visitors Permit

The permit is available for two varied periods, each having different fee to consider

  • Visitors driving permit – US$ 5.00 for two months
  • Visitors driver’s license – US$ 50.00 for up to a maximum of one year.

Please Note: Barbados driving licenses are valid for over 2 months are only issued by the Barbados Licensing Authority offices

Minimum Age to obtain a drivers permit in Barbados

Applying for Visitor’s Permit for Duration of Stay Exceeding 2 Months

Requirements:

  • A valid international driver’s license.
  • A passport indicating your living or working status.
  • Completed and scanned visitors permit application form. Download the application form.

  3. Date of entry
  4. Address in Barbados
  • A BDS$ 100.00 fee payable through SurePay online

Application and Follow-up Process

  • You can apply for a Barbados visitor’s permit by email through [email protected]
  • Once you fill and submit the visitor permit application form, the BRA will review and approve it.
  • An identifier unique to the application is then issued. This identifier is what you will use to make payment via SurePay.
  • The BRA processes permit application payments via the secure online payment platform SurePay.

If you would like to make payment in one of their local locations, refer to their payment locations in Barbados.

  • SurePay will issue a receipt upon payment of the permit fee.
  • The payment confirmation report will be generated and sent to the Barbados Revenue Authority every hour.
  • Upon payment confirmation, the BRA will issue, via email, the visitor’s permit by the next business day.

After successful completion of a theory and practical driving test a driver’s licence is issued. This licence gives persons the ability to drive legally on the streets of The Bahamas.

Driver’s licences expire at the end of the holder’s birth month and are issued for either one or three years. However, persons obtaining a driver’s licence for the first time can only have their new licence for a period of one year.

Eligibility:

First time drivers applying for a driver’s licence should have successfully completed the theoretical and practical driving test examinations.

The following steps are required to obtain a driver’s licence:

  1. Present supporting documents to the Road Traffic Department, Driver’s Licence Unit.
  2. Upon verification of all information, the Photo Clerk will take the photograph and signature of the applicant. (In cases where the applicant possessed a learner’s permit, the photo and signature in the system can be used on the new driver’s licence.)
  3. Upon payment to the cashier, the driver’s licence Clerk will issue the new driver’s licence.

There are no application forms for this service.

  • Passport
  • National Insurance Card
  • Pass certificate from the Road Traffic Department, Examination Unit.
  • Non-Bahamians should present Passport, Permit to reside, issued by The Bahamas Immigration Department (Work Permit, Residency Permit, Spousal Permit or Permanent Resident Permit).

Turn-around time:

Once all the requirements are met, the licence can be issued on the same day. In some instances further processing of some applicants may be necessary and can take up to but not exceeding three(3) business days.

The fees for a first time driver’s licence is calculated at BS$1.66 per month for the duration of the driver’s licence.
